Third Grade Curriculum Information.

BIBLE
The students are introduced to the life and teachings of Jesus and Paul the Apostle.
HISTORY
Third graders survey American history in a Christian perspective through the biographies of great Americans. The emphasis is on patriotism, character development, and the variety of contributions made by Americans to the country.
LANGUAGE
Reading - Students have two oral reading sessions a day and read about ten pages each day. Students learn new vocabulary words by applying the rules of phonics, produce comprehension skills and learn to enjoy good literature.

Penmanship - Students practice cursive writing while improving their skills in phonics, creative writing, reading comprehension, dictionary usage, nature study, and the reading of charts.

Spelling and Poetry - Students learn twenty-eight words a week, the last three words are vocabulary words. Phonics analysis is given for all words. Students learn eight poems in the year.

Language - Students learn a variety of mechanical skills including capitalization, punctuation, plurals, contractions, word usage, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and using the dictionary. Students complete creative writing, journals and book reports assignments.
MATH
The students learn a variety of skills including the ability to read and write numbers to millions, understand division, use division in fractions, memorized the tables through 12 in division, find square roots, decide if a number is prime or composite, multiply three and four digits by two-digit factors, memorize the tables through 12 in multiplication, addition and subtraction skills, solving story problems, counting money, the use of graphs and statistics, finding the average, decimals, and fractions.
SCIENCE
The students study the body, explore plants, desert, ocean, ponds, forests and weather.
