BIBLE'Christ and My Life'. This presents three strands of instruction: a survey or overview of the New Testament; and in-depth, personalized study of popular passages; and application of these scriptures to important issues faced by sixth graders. The focus is on personal Bible study and the understanding of priciples which can guide all of life's decisions.
HISTORY
Students focus study on the eastern hemisphere. During this study study students will be able to understand that many of the ideas of great men of the past had an impact on our founding fathers. Students will be able to evaluate historical events and decisions in light of Scriptural principles -- were these events wise or foolish from a Christian perspective? A major emphasis in the curriculum is to increase students' skills in locating and identifying geographical features.
LANGUAGE
The Language Arts is divided into four areas: Reading and Literature; Penmanship; Spelling and Poetry; and Language which includes writing and grammar.
Two Literature books and a speed reading book develops oral reading, comprehension, speed reading and vocabular building.
Review of cursive writing formation is practiced through writing and word exercises.
The spelling book groups words according to prefixes, suffixes, and root words. Seven poems are committed to memory throughout the year.
The Language focuses on recognizing, diagraming, and using the eight parts of speech, writing book reports, a library research paper, and practicing punctuation and capitalization rules.
MATH
Students review the basic operations of arithmetic. They also study the metric system. the bulk of the sixth grade study is fractions, decimals, and percent. Also stressed during the year is the drill and memorization of all the basic English measures of weight, time, and distance.
SCIENCE
Observing God's World presents God as creation and sustainer of the universe. Four areas of His universe are studied by the students. These areas are plants, invertebrates, matter, and earth and space.
